Considerations and Potential Drawbacks
- Students may still have a difficult time seeing rhetorical context as an influence. Be prepared with some specific examples or questions that will point them to easily available means to see how the context and audience may have affected their text.
- Students may worry that you're trying to tell them they have no control over their production of texts. Emphasize that "influence" doesn't mean total control. They still have choices, but those choices are often limited in set ways.
