I took an introduction to philosphy course at Duke my freshman year. I actually considered studying philosophy for about two seconds. In this class, we used the name George for premises in arguments about God. I found this funny because of the fact that George Burns played God in all of those Oh God films.
As a child, I found those movies a bit confusing. My sister and I used to have discussions about what if George Burns really was God. At one time, I was certain that he was, but I was also certain that I was going to go straight to hell because I had not been ceremoniously dipped in water--baptized.
I also found it interesting that my friends referred to their menstrual cycles as George; maybe they're on to something since George seems omnipotent.
