Trade Magazines

Look for some of these features to distinguish trade magazines from other kinds.

Appearance:

  • cover depicts industrial setting
  • glossy paper
  • pictures and illustrations in color
  • each issue starts with page 1

Audience:

  • members of a specific business, industry or organization

Content:

  • industry trends, new products or techniques, and organizational news
  • articles written by staff or contributing authors

Accountability:

  • editorial review
  • may have short bibliographies

Advertisements:

  • moderate
  • all or most are trade related

Examples:

  • Chilton's Food Engineering
  • Chemical and Engineering News
  • APA Monitor
