The South Bedroom
Two beds, one against each wall. The mattresses floral, going soft, the torn plastic edge of a rubber sheet covering one end. The sheets mismatched but clean. The guest bed. The room itself oddly sterile, un-lived-in.
A chest of drawers, a bookshelf. A collection of picked-over childrens' books. A device for curling hair. A pin cushion. In a shoebox in the closet, photographs.
The bedroom belonged to the two sisters first.
