Walking through a labyrinth, full of both possibility and danger, I reach the end of the road I was on and must choose to go left or right, and I have no idea how to go about making that decision, or the ones that are sure to follow it.  I lament that I don’t have help from religion, a God in the sky who sees the whole maze, who I could put my trust in, pray to for a sign about which way to go…someone, anyone who knows the way out, can see the big picture and tell me which way to turn.  Other mortals are no help.  I meet them along the way and they can tell me where they came from, the strategies that they have tried, but they can’t know what will work for me.  Everyone has to solve the puzzle for themselves, choose their own adventure.
