Small
towns teach compromise in the same way that large families do, and I had
experience with both. What
I mean is that when you are stuck in a place with the same people for
any extended period of time, you have to learn to get along.
You have to be willing to give up things you want, for the sake
of the larger group. Being
selfish in either of these contexts is seen as the greatest of sins.
