| the secret concoction (continued) | Outside, Barb starting calling for the girls."Jen, Megan, come here, we want to play a game with you." Once she had a captive audience, they were doomed. "Just give it a little try," she coaxed. "Then we'll let you be in our play. One of you might even get to play Laura." The girls were dying to participate in our famed, ongoing Little House on the Prairie play, and this was just the push they needed. Jen took a teeny sip, and said, "Oohh, yummy," and smiled at Barb. She handed the cup to my sister, which suddenly caused me to become an evil person. I smiled. "Try it, Megan. Everyone else has." Megan took a big swig and promptly turned green. Just then, my dad pulled up in the driveway, and Barb and I waved and ran off, leaving the drink with my sister. Two minutes later, I could hear my dad's voice, booming up and down the block. "Nicole Denise! Get over here!" he yelled. "Great," I said to Barb, who had suddenly vanished. When I got to the driveway, I saw that my dad had the cup in his hand. "I hear that you made this delicious drink for Megan and Jen. I suppose it is so tasty that you won't mind taking a big drink of it yourself," he said, smiling very large. It then occurred to me that in a weird way, he was getting the same pleasure out of this as I did when I made Megan drink it. Except I deserved to be sick. He handed me the glass, and I tried to get away with a tiny sip. "Um, no," he said. "If you keep taking sips that small, it's going to take you forever to finish the glass. Hurry it up, mom's probably got dinner ready." Dinner? The whole glass? Who was he kidding? As I tilted the glass I saw Barb in her driveway, talking to her mom like nothing was going on. I felt like growling. She never got in trouble. I poured a huge gulp down the hatch, and after swallowing, I promptly vomited all over the blacktop driveway. "Well, I guess you'd better go get the hose," my dad said, laughing. I can't say this episode stopped me from teasing my sister. However, I did realize that I had better make extra sure my dad did not find out about it.
