Supporting Critical Responses

All critical responses must be supported with evidence. Information from the essay, quoted directly and paraphrased, is one kind of evidence you can use in your response. For example, when you analyze the structure of an essay, you must use direct quotes that illustrate the structure. Other forms of support include examples, facts, and statistics from outside sources, as well as your own relevant personal experience.
