Questions to Ask Yourself as you Revise Your Essay

Is the title of my essay at least moderately informative?
Is the opening paragraph interesting and, by its end, have I focused on the topic?
Do I state my main point (thesis) soon enough--perhaps even in the title--and do I keep it in view throughout my essay? Is my claim (thesis) focused narrowly enough to be developed adequately in this essay?
Is the organization reasonable? Does each point lead to the next without irrelevancies?
Does each paragraph revolve around a topic idea that directly supports my thesis?
Are generalizations or assertions supported by illustrative examples, concrete evidence, research, etc.?
Does credible evidence support each of my arguments?
Do I identify and refute the main opposition arguments?
Have I used all the appeals possible given my focus and target audience?
Have I identified each source with a parenthetical reference where I use it in the paper?
Have I included each source on my Works Cited page?
Is the concluding paragraph conclusive without being repetitive?

If you answer no to any of the questions above, add that element to your revision plan.
