Strategies for Writing
- Read critically. Be sure that your summary and response adhere to the expectations of an academic audience: it's clear, objective, accurate, and supported with evidence.
- Define your audience. What can your instructor and classmates be expected to know about the text and about your experience and what will require more support and explanation?
- Focus on the author's main ideas, not the events that are used to illustrate or support them.
- Begin to develop support with personal evidence, and, where necessary, quotes and paraphrases.
