Purpose of the Paper: As was the case with the Personal Literacy Reflection and the Response Essay, this paper has both reader-based and writer-based purposes. For you as a writer, the essay you write will help you further explore your experiences with language. For you as a student in this course, writing this essay will provide an opportunity to practice skills related to taking a position on an issue and to practice working with a variety of (sometimes competing) arguments about that issue.
For your readers, the purpose of this essay is to share with them your position on an issue and to indicate how that position relates to the arguments and observations made by other authors who address the issue.
