Identifying Common Issues and Ideas in a Group of Readings: At this point, we want you to go beyond merely naming topics that writers discuss. We want you to be able to tease out the complexity of underlying issues in a group of readings. For instance, Malcolm X and Helen Keller both write about the topic of discovering language. A more complex issue raised by their essays concerns the ways in which certain groups of people are denied access to language and literacy.
