Introducing Peer Review: Throughout the semester, you'll engage in peer review, that is, you will read and comment on drafts of your classmates' papers. Peer review allows you to "try your paper out" with a reader. Typically, you'll exchange a draft of your paper with one or more classmates. The peer reviewers will write comments on the draft or on a separate comment sheet about strengths and weakness of the paper or sometimes just about their understanding of the paper.

Peer review can help you identify areas of your paper that might be unclear to readers or might need additional development. Peer review can also help you generate ideas for your paper. We've found that the conversations writers have about their work often call attention to issues that are worth addressing in more detail or that might even lead the paper in new directions.
