CO150 Portfolio Two, Part A: Exploring Issues for Research and Argumentation
Purpose: The purpose of the Portfolio 2A is to familiarize you with current debatable conversations from reputable publications by creating an annotated bibliography so that you may choose an interesting issue to focus on for Portfolios 2B and 3.
Audience: Your audience for this assignment includes yourself and our class. You are welcome to share some of your sources with other peers who choose to work on the same issues, so be sure to keep track of where you find your articles.
Requirements:
- Include 6-8 articles in your annotated bibliography. Articles should address a range of debatable issues (not just current events).
- Each article should be accompanied by a 1-2 paragraph write-up which includes a brief summary of the article's key points and a response. Your responses should analyze the context, currency and credibility of each article as well as the potential for further research on the issue which it addresses.
- Your articles must come from a minimum of 4 different sources. We will discuss reputable and interesting sources to explore for articles in class. Remember that the purpose of this assignment is to explore a variety of issues in preparation to choosing one to work with for the rest of the semester, so aim for as much variety as possible in exploring sources and choosing articles.
- Bring a copy of your annotated bibliography to your conference in the format specified in class. We will grade your P2A during our conference, so be prepared to discuss it and any questions you have about the research process.
** Note: It's a good idea to print off articles (or email them to yourself) as soon as you encounter them. Otherwise, they may become archived and you will not be able to access them without paying a fee.
Worth: 10% of your overall course grade
