Based on your description of the positions in Part 1 and your understanding of the issue, complete the following:

  1. Identify your tentative claim/thesis. What position are you planning to take? What viewpoint or solution will you argue for?
  2. Identify and define a potential audience. Who will your audience be for your argument? Why do they need to hear your argument? What will they value? What are their influences?
  3. What is your main purpose in targeting this tentative audience? What do you want to accomplish by writing to them?
  4. Explain why your claim and audience make sense within the context of the issue. That is, why do your choices fit within the issue you've defined through the positions you've discussed above? Why is this claim appropriate to the overall context? Why is this a relevant and fitting audience?
