| Janelle Adsit loves to write everything but bios. This is Janelle's first year in the Communication Development program. She graduated from C.S.U. with a B.A. in Liberal Arts in Spring 2007. She is slowly working her way up to a specialization, but for now, she is pursuing anything that looks interesting. She is in the Women's Studies and College Teaching certificate programs. After graduation, she hopes to get an MFA in poetry. The Writing Center is one of the three centers Janelle is a part of this semester; she works in the Center for Literary Publishing and the Community Literacy Center too. | ![]() |
| Hi! My name is Mandy Billings and I’m a first year MFA fiction student. This is my second year as a Writing Center consultant and I’m excited to be back! In addition to working with writers at the Writing Center, I facilitate a women’s creative writing workshop at the Larimer County Detention Center through the Community Literacy Center. I’m really interested in working with writers both inside and outside of the academic community, and I hope you’ll stop by the Writing Center to say hi and work on some writing! | ![]() |
| My name is Kevin Burnett and I’m a Computer Science major. After having worked as a programmer for eight years I decided that I wanted some change and came back to college to pursue a degree. Then, after being in college for a semester, I decided that I wanted to pursue new interests, as well as old, and started working towards a Creative Writing degree. I’m officially a senior now but am looking forward to several more years of learning and not working in a cubicle farm. | ![]() |
| Laura Crum is a first year GTA in the Speech Communication department. She teaches SPCM 200 and is working on her Master’s. Laura worked at a writing center previously and is really excited to be consulting again. | ![]() |
| Hello, my name is David Dahl-Hansson. I am a second-semester Master’s student in Rhetoric and Composition. I am originally from Sweden and have made my way to Colorado by way of California, Arizona and New York. In my spare time (what little I have as a graduate student…) I am a big-time movie buff, bookworm, hiker, and traveler (Sunset Blvd., The Time Traveler’s Wife, Marstrand (in Sweden), and The Maldives are my absolute favorites in their respective fields). In a previous life I used to work as an actor, and in a future life I wish to work as a teacher of composition. | ![]() |
| Laurel Lachowiez: I am a junior English major with a concentration in Literature. I came here from flat Nebraska (oh so exciting!) so I definitely love the mountains. My hobbies include horseback riding, tennis, hiking, sledding, camping, and pretty much anything outdoors. The highlight of my summer was camping in Yellowstone and seeing a bear. I named him Yogi (very original, huh?). Starbucks is my life source, so if I am not in the Writing Center or in class, you can probably find me at one of their many locations across Fort Collins. | ![]() |
| Hello, my name is Carmody Leerssen. I am a senior English major with a concentration in writing and a minor in Sociology. I love helping people develop their writing and to look at their work in a new way. I enjoy problem solving and generating new ideas about where pieces of writing can go. I am excited to be a consultant in the Writing Center and I look forward to helping you with your work! | ![]() |
| Tricia Lincoln is a second-year graduate student in the MFA program at CSU working on a combined thesis in fiction and poetry. She is also the Assistant to the Director of the Reading Series for the MFA Creative Writing Program. | Hello there, my name is Emily Nicols. I am an English major and a Religious Studies minor, entering into the final year of my undergrad. YAY!!! I have absolutely no idea what to do after graduation. And, no, I don’t want to teach. I love cats and think dogs are OK. I should never be allowed to take care of things like fish…or plants…or babies. I also hate the snow and being cold, but love snowboarding. Ironic, isn’t it? | ![]() |
| Hi, my name is Kathy Palmquist. I’m a fourth generation Colorado native, but new to Ft. Collins and CSU, where I am a first year graduate student in the Rhetoric and Composition program. In addition to plenty of academic writing, I enjoy writing poetry and love hanging out with my fellow poetry workshop buddies. I have three nearly grown children and since they are gone most of the time I am adjusting to living with several houseplants I’m trying not to kill. | ![]() |
| Erin Parsons: I am double-majoring in Anthropology and English major with a Creative Writing concentration. My dream career is to work in construction and be the person who turns the sign from “Slow” to “Stop.” I anticipate lovely UV radiation-induced crow’s feet to result. If I fail in this career option, I suppose I will become a professor and/or a truck driver. | ![]() |
| My name is Laura Puls and I am an undergrad English Writing major, with a French minor. I am a recovering obsessive grammarian, though I still cringe at the phrase "Where you at." I like to listen to people talk about their ideas and what they want communicate in their writing. I ask questions often to make sure I have understood what they mean. I have taken a couple theory courses that have made me analyze everything and interrupt everyday conversations with "Oh, that's like what I learned in..." In a couple years, I will probably move to Washington D.C. to attend library school and, next up: Library of Congress. | ![]() |
| Gwen Shonkwiler: I am a second-year graduate student in the English Education program. I enjoy reading of all sorts, but mostly I enjoy fantasy novels--comics are good too. I also like to write fiction, non-fiction, essays (I know it's crazy) and sometimes poetry. I have been in Fort Collins for almost 12 years and enjoy numerous outdoor activities, especially camping and backpacking, but now that I am in school I mostly just bike. You might see me biking around town on my light blue cruiser. | ![]() |
| I am David Siska-Salkin and I'm a junior studying English Literature. I'm especially interested in literary theory and comparative literature. I spend most of my time writing about these things though I sometimes enjoy writing short stories or poetry. The personal synopsis is my most dreaded writing assignment. I look forward to working with you. | |
| Hello, I’m Blaine Smith, a third year English graduate student specializing in Education. I am a College Composition instructor who loves working with students to improve their writing. When not reading or writing, I enjoy going to concerts, riding my bike, and participating in other fun outdoor Colorado activities. | ![]() |
| My name is Madeleine Smith and I am a senior English Creative Writing and French double major. My favorite book is probably the Divine Comedy. However, I also enjoy running, camping, slam poetry, Beat poetry, old poetry, contemporary American poetry, African poetry, French poetry, language poetry, other poetry, non-poetry, arguing about poetry, and Bob Dylan. When I grow up, I hope to be a genius or at least insane. | ![]() |
| I’m Bryan Stevens, a first-year graduate student in the English Education program. In my former life, I was a bartender in a tiny Colorado mountain town and a copywriter in a towering Broomfield skyscraper. Outside of reading and writing, my passions include listening to Led Zeppelin, eating nachos, and eating nachos while watching football. | ![]() |
| Hi! I’m Monica Wilson, a junior Biological Science and Zoology major with an interest in far too many different fields. I hope to pursue graduate study to become an Ethologist or a Veterinary Behaviorist, but in the meantime I’m happy to study my three dogs and write about them in “their” internet blogs. In my spare time (when my dogs are asleep) I love to read anything I can, although Harry Potter and the Ender’s Game series currently top my non-academic list. Writing and science are my passions, so I’m particularly excited to be working the Writing Center this, and look forward to seeing you there! | ![]() |
