Commenting On Student Writing

 

Questions To Ask Yourself Before You Begin

  • What opportunities do you have when commenting? How can writing comments afford you a space for communicating with students that other teaching contexts do not?
  • What worries you the most about grading student papers? The grade itself? The comments? Both?
  • Thinking back to your own experiences as a student writer, what kinds of comments did you most appreciate getting from your professors? Which comments did you think were least helpful?
