For this next paper, choose a topic that is of interest to you from your major discipline. This topic could be a recent discovery, a trend in your field, or a special topic of controversy right now. Write a paper on the topic with a non-specialist audience in mind.

As a forward to your paper, mention which publication you are gearing this paper for. (This could be the popular science magazine you analyzed for paper #4, but it doesn't have to be.) Explain briefly about your target audience--how much about your topic they might already know, etc.

Since you are writing to a generalist audience, be sure to describe the issue in detail and to define any technical terms you use.
