Writing for the Web

Review Your Content

An effective Web site design:

  • helps you achieve your purpose and goals as a writer
  • addresses your readers' needs and interests
  • makes it easy for readers to locate important information
  • has a consistent "look and feel"
Your earlier decisions about your site's organization, the general placement of information on pages, and navigation tools lays the foundation for a good design. As you begin to think more specifically about how your pages will appear – and how they will be linked to each other – review your content.

During your content review, make notes about points that you want to stage – call attention to – for your readers. Note, as well, whether specific content would be best presented in body paragraphs, in lists or tables, or via an image, audio, video, or animation.

Finally, review the placement of information in your tentative Web site structure. (Trust me – the structure you developed earlier is likely to change as you continue to work on your site.)
