Writing for the Web

Transfer Files to Your Web Account

Most Web site designers code their documents on their computers and then send the files to their Web sites. This process is called transferring files and is carried out using a program, such as Ipswitch's WS_FTP (http://www.ipswitch.com), that uses the File Transfer Protocol (FTP). FTP creates a connection between your computer and your Web server, allowing you to copy files in a manner similar to what you do when copying files from your hard drive to a floppy diskette.

Your Web account provider can provide you with information about the specific procedure you should use to transfer files to and from your Web site.
