Using Quotations

While the best way to summarize an author's material is simply to present one or two examples of the type of proof she uses, direct quotes can also be used in a summary. Use direct quotes, however, only if the author's wording is so unique, noteworthy, or indicative of her style that you could not summarize it on your own without using her words. For example, in the column by Steve Hill you might want to quote,"We have fingers, we can vote, we want to pick our nose!" because of the sarcasm and uniqueness of the statement.
