Process For Finding Main Point

When writing about something we've read, it's difficult to begin writing immediately, but many times it's easier to not get "over-talked" by the published author if you take more control of the process by writing early on. If you prefer this method, try freewriting everything you remember about the article after your first read-through and then double-checking your first impressions. In your first freewrite, concentrate on what you think the author's main point is. After writing, sort through all the "junk" in the freewrite to see if you have a main point.
