Example Summary of Steve Hill Article

Back Back to Use of Quotes

Steve Hill's article "Mari for President" in The Collegian lampoons a fictitious ASCSU candidate for president, Mari Gades. Through sarcasm and continual reference to Mari's strength in the area of "nose-picking," Hill demonstrates the low level to which campus campaigns have been reduced. For example, he equates nose-picking as an equal campaign promise to better parking and a better library, given the likelihood of those promise being kept. As Hill concludes, elections are "a decision between the same old resume-building college bureaucrat wanna-bes and Mari Gades, an honest, hard-working nose-picker." Given these choices, Hill endorses the nose-picker.
