Codes

Tom Siller, Civil Engineering Professor

Codes are very precise prescriptions; they're not very narrative at all and are usually presented in very small paragraphs. They also get very microscopic. For instance, a code might have several sub-codes within it, and so you'll see subheadings labeled as 1.1.2.

Typically, you'll find Code books in an organization's reference library. As a student, you may or may not use a Code books in your classes, but they are available in t he campus bookstore.
