Personal Messages
Another increasingly common use of email is to send personal messages to professional colleagues. Especially as professionals begin work on new projects or shift into a new line of research, they inform colleagues they know are interested in the same topics. Sometimes, the email might request help in getting started; sometimes the email just informs colleagues of changing work patterns. Think of these kinds of messages much like the casual conversations that might take place during brief encounters at conventions or other professional gatherings.
