Writing Demonstrations

Creating In-Text Citations Using APA Style

Exceptions to the General Rule

In most cases, you will want to cite the author's last name and date in parentheses, as outlined in the General Format for Parenthetical Citations section of this demonstration. However, exceptions do exist.

To read more about parenthetical documentation exceptions, click on any of the questions below. The examples offered in this section are citations of entire works. Remember that if you are quoting or citing a particular part of a source, you need to include page, chapter, section, or line numbers (whatever is appropriate) in addition to author and date of publication.
